Giovanni Gastel: Rewind

Palazzo Citterio presents an exhibition dedicated to Giovanni Gastel, curated by Uberto Frigerio, tracing the artist’s career through more than 250 images. The exhibition spans from early fashion covers to still lifes, portraits, advertising campaigns and personal projects, offering a thematic and non-chronological perspective on his work.

The display includes a wide selection of materials, such as previously unseen photographs, large-format prints and polaroids, alongside personal objects and working tools. For the first time, the exhibition also presents the artist’s writings and poetry, considered integral to his visual language.

Gastel’s practice is characterised by a synthesis of craftsmanship and innovation, combining analogue and digital approaches. His work reflects a distinctive visual language shaped by a balance between formal precision and experimentation, developed across different genres of photography.

The exhibition also highlights the relationship between the artist and Milan, understood as a cultural and social context that informs his work. The project offers an overview of a practice that moves between fashion, art and personal expression, revealing the coherence of a multifaceted production.
