Giovanni Stefano Ghidini: 52 Ludlow
The exhibition “52 Ludlow” presents a selection of works by Giovanni Stefano Ghidini from a long-term project developed over twenty-five years. Curated by Alberto Salvadori, the presentation brings together three works from the series “52 Ludlow”, first conceived in 1997 on the rooftop of a building in New York’s Lower East Side, where the artist cultivated sunflowers and transformed them into sculptural and anthropomorphic presences.
Through a process based on care, observation and gradual transformation, the plants become central elements of Ghidini’s artistic investigation, reflecting on cycles of growth, decay and renewal. The project combines sculpture, photography and natural processes, situating the work between documentation and symbolic interpretation.
The platinum prints, produced in 2022, emphasise the tactile and tonal qualities of the images while intensifying their contemplative dimension. Through these works, the exhibition invites a slow engagement with themes of time, impermanence and the adaptive capacity of living organisms.
