Jacopo Martinotti: Via Vecchia Strada Militare

The exhibition evokes a place—a military fortress on the outskirts of Savona—where, in 1943, Nazi-Fascist forces massacred a number of citizens. This video installation, conceived for The Open Box, photographically examines the wall surface that bore witness to the execution. Each bullet hole, captured individually on film, is projected onto the back wall of the exhibition space, forming an obsessive and dizzying constellation of traces. The projection itself becomes a form of shooting, generating a visual and temporal short circuit that that interrogates us through the force of images that acquire a universal value.
