John Isaacs: Archipelago

Poggiali, Milan, Foro Buonaparte 52, 20121, Milan, Italy

Poggiali Gallery in Milan present a solo exhibition by renowned British artist John Isaacs (Lancaster, 1968), ARCHIPELAGO – from a distance you look smaller but I know that you are there curated by Pierre Yves Desaive. The artist presents three never before seen pieces created especially for this exhibition.

According to the curator, this project explores the impossible need to reconcile the needs of an individual and ‘the overwhelming burden of humanity’ whilst alluding to history and its precarious interconnectedness to our present lives. His work induces altered perceptions of history with the materials he uses, turning notions of the past and the present on their heads.

Here he presents a large sculpture (a wreckage of a digger, representing a belief system, in ceramic, gold and resin) , a neon (From a distance you look smaller but I know you there) which points to the works Merz and Nauman and a photograph of his wife and daughter alluding to the family narrative and life cycles.
