Kim Bohie: Towards

kaufmann repetto presents “Towards”, the first Italian solo exhibition by Bohie Kim. One of Korea’s most esteemed landscape painters, Kim creates vividly chromatic compositions that merge Oriental and Western traditions. Initially trained in East Asian ink-wash techniques on traditional hanji paper, the artist gradually incorporated Western mediums such as acrylics and canvas to develop a hybrid style encompassing landscapes, still lifes, and human figures.

The exhibition focuses on a body of work influenced by Kim’s move to Jeju Island in the early 2000s. Her visual language is informed by the island’s subtropical flora and volcanic landscapes, as well as the tradition of jingyeong sanshuwa, or ‘true-view landscape painting’.

These works often blur the boundaries between representation and abstraction, reflecting the artist’s belief that nature possesses inherent abstract qualities.
