LETIA – Letizia Cariello: Παρνασσός, Parnassus
The project marks the first time a LETIA – Letizia Cariello’s work is shown in a public Milanese museum. The installation consists of a large, open gilded aluminium structure that dialogues with the architecture of the Sala del Parnaso and the view of the external garden.
The work is specifically designed for this setting, which features a 1811 ceiling fresco by Andrea Appiani depicting Apollo and the Muses on Mount Parnassus. Letizia Cariello’s research focuses on making time visible and exploring the boundary between the third and fourth dimensions. Her practice treats architecture and music as related fields governed by vibration.
In “Παρνασσός Parnassus”, the artist references the Hittite origin of the word “parna”, meaning “house” or “dwelling”. The structure functions as a “house-crossing”, engaging with the room’s decorative elements, such as the chandeliers and floors. The project reflects the artist’s interest in the relationship between sound, rhythm, and space, translating musical proportionality into a physical, measurable environment characterized by transparency and lightness.
