The exhibition INVITATION 2016 to Museo del Novecento consolidates the Association’s relationship with one of the the most important Italian museums.
The work of Linda Fregni Nagler comes from a deep search of old photographs, selected and collected by the artist, with the aim of studying the relationship between image photographic, society and culture.
The photographs come from the extensive iconographic repertoire of news journalism twentieth century. The originals were re-photographed and enlarged in the darkroom. The subjects of the images figures are in the process of jumping or hanging precariously. The choice of this theme is a tribute to the ambiguous nature of documentary photography. The images show a moment suspended, but does not tell anything about the fate of the photographed subject: the protagonists, trapped in the thirtieth of a second of a photograph, remain poetically hovering between heaven and earth. Through the process of blow up the artist does emergence frequent retouches manuals present on the surface of the original prints, applied Editors of newspapers to improve contrast and make images more readable printed, that in the works exhibited become pictorial signs. On display will be visible sculpture Untitled (Propeller II) (2014), realized starting from machine images to direct the dell’areostato flight, built to Nadar by Gustave de Ponton d’Amécourt. Also so this work is a meditation on a limit of photography: the subject, enclosed the frame, is visible from a single point of view, that hides much as it discloses.
The triptych is joined in the work of Mario Airò, Rosa Barba, Gianni Caravaggio, Maurizio Cattelan, Roberto Cuoghi, Lara Favaretto, Francesco Gennari, Mezzaqui, Marzia Improves, Adrian Paci, Paola Pivi, Luca Trevisani, Toderi, Marcella Vanzo, Nico Vascellari, Francesco Vezzoli, Tatiana Trouve ACACIA that make up the collection.
