Lovett/Codagnone: I Only Want You To Love Me
PAC Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea presents “I Only Want You to Love Me”, the first anthological exhibition dedicated to Lovett/Codagnone, the artist duo formed in 1995 by John Lovett (b. 1962, Allentown, Pennsylvania) and Alessandro Codagnone (1967, Milan – 2019, New Jersey). The exhibition, curated by Diego Sileo and promoted by the Municipality of Milan in collaboration with New York–based Participant Inc., showcases early photography and video works alongside recent sculptural installations, public billboards, and a newly produced neon installation.
Lovett/Codagnone’s practice centers on love and power as tools to unmask interpersonal and collective identities. Through photography, performance, video, sound, and installation, their work reflects on underground resistance and the normalization processes that suppress subcultures and dissent. Their references include radical figures from literature, cinema, theater, and punk music. In 2008, they formed the band Candidate with musician Michele Pauli.
In memory of Alessandro Codagnone, this exhibition highlights the duo’s lasting impact on the international art scene and younger generations.
