Merlin James:”Paintings”

Raucci/Santamaria Gallery in Milan presents a solo show by Merlin James (Cardiff, 1960; lives and works in Glasgow). His works display a profound contemporary awareness and his penchant to overcome all references to previous artists and style or manner, combined with a deep analytical knowledge of painting and a desire to investigate its techniques and expressions.

The works on show are figurative, abstract or tactile, animated by the use of different materials, some of which are not the norm. In their diversity, this series of subjects gives us a sense of  both familiarity and mystery, intimacy and enigma.

James is known not only as an artist but also a scholar and expert critic of modern painting. He has exhibited his works at a number international institutions
