Mika Taanila: Memoria esterna

The gallery presents the first solo exhibition of the Finnish artist and filmmaker in Italy.

The exhibition displays a series of photographs and a video installation, which examines how technological development and new devices have redefined the mediascape, cinema and the world overall. The video “Optical Sound” shows an increasingly artificial habitat in which Taanila uses outdated media like VHS or needle printers, and turns them into a low-tech musical instrument through complex filming and recording techniques.

The Finish artist has presented his works with various cultural institutions, fairs and biennales, as well as dOCUMENTA13 (2012). He is among the representatives of the Nordic Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale this year 2017.
