Milano Metafisica
The Museo del Novecento presents an in-depth exploration of the relationship between Metaphysical art and Milan, as part of the exhibition programme curated by Vincenzo Trione, accompanying the major exhibition at Palazzo Reale, “Metafisica/Metafisiche”. This artistic journey through the ‘heart of the city’ involves not only the Museo del Novecento, but also the Gallerie d’Italia and the Grande Brera.
‘The exhibition project explores Metaphysical art,’ explains Vincenzo Trione, ‘as an artistic movement, a tendency, and an aesthetic and poetic form of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.’
At Palazzo Reale, around 400 works are on display, creating a dialogue between the leading figures of the historic group founded in Ferrara in 1917 and artists in Europe and America who absorbed the atmospheres and approaches of the movement.
Within the Ettore and Claudia Gian Ferrari Archives at the Museo del Novecento, the exhibition investigates the relationship between certain protagonists of the group led by de Chirico and the city—an artistic and intellectual crossroads, as well as a laboratory for experimentation and dialogue between the arts.
Visitors encounter a selection of 50 works, including drawings, maquettes, garments, archival materials and photographs, documenting the activity of de Chirico, Savinio and Carrà in the Lombard capital and their collaboration with some of the city’s most important artistic and cultural institutions.
