Mimmo Paladino
Mimmo Paladino (born in Paduli, 1948) began his artistic journey in the late 1960s, characterised by an openness to various mediums, including photography, drawing, performance art, and theatre. Alongside painting, printmaking, and sculpture, Paladino collaborated with prominent designers and architects such as Ettore Sottsass, the Memphis Group, Mario Botta, and Renzo Piano.
He played a crucial role in bridging the allegories of Southern Italy with diverse artistic languages, fostering an eclectic approach to art making. In the 1970s, he challenged the avant-garde system, and in the 1980s, he gained international recognition as a prominent figure in the Transavanguardia movement.
His work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, Documenta, and in major cities including Beijing and Florence. Notable public installations include the “Montagna di sale” in Naples and the “Montagna blu” in Solopaca. Paladino’s work is held in major public collections, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and Tate, London.
