Miroslaw Balka: Crossover/s
The artist’s first retrospective in Italy exhibits fifteen sculptures, installations, and videos made from the 90s, in which the artist explores human nature as well as individual and collective memory. His works play with light and darkness, and its presence and function within the space. Balka uses depicting symbolic objects like beds, pedestals and fountains, in works that allude to the human presence without ever portraying it. He often incorporates autobiographical elements and episodes within his works, and thereby reflects on European, and especially Polish, history.
The exhibition, curated by Vicente Todolí for the spaces of Pirelli HangarBicocca, intends to show the public the artist’s intense period of subsequent research and production.
