Monica Bonvicini: Our House
The artist’s first exhibition in the Milanese gallery is comprising all of the three rooms of the exhibition space of Via Stradella. She has been very allured by the architecture and history, which grants an individual character to the gallery.
In addition to Bonvicini’s sculptures which she is most known for, the exhibition presents drawings and collages the artist produced especially for this solo show. This series is based on the research she conducted on natural disasters caused by human actions, referring to various studies such as “Capitalocene” by Donna Haraway. Haraway, as a great defender of feminism, has studied the relationship between science and gender identity. Bonvicini is inspired by certain aspects of the study, which she incorporates in her drawings and collages. For the latter, she uses images taken from online newspaper articles, which report that natural disasters are the result of global warming and environmentally unfriendly human behavior.
