Monster Chetwynd, Sonia Kacem, Walter Pfeiffer
The exhibition highlights a selection of works by Monster Chetwynd, Sonia Kacem and Walter Pfeiffer.
The artistic practice of Monster Chetwynd, broad and heterogeneous, spans film, collage, painting and installations, intertwining motifs drawn from popular theatre, mass culture and surrealist cinema. Known for a distinctive visual language that finds its fullest expression in her anarchic and improvised performances – rich in handmade costumes, props and sets – the artist often employs simple, readily available materials, valued as much for their adaptability as for their immediacy.
Walter Pfeiffer began his photographic practice in the 1970s with little regard for technical ambition, but with the intention of providing a new visual vocabulary for beauty, eroticism and the freedom to live. Through varied formats and contexts, Pfeiffer conveys in images how the voids of life are punctuated by bursts of expression and allure. With both distance and intimacy, the artist portrays these spontaneous revolutions.
In her work, Sonia Kacem stands out for her acute sensitivity to materials drawn from the cycle of everyday consumption. The artist uses them to develop sculptural compositions in which she challenges our expectations regarding the nature and function of materials, and addresses the relationship between object and viewer.
