Open Studio #4 | Arnaldo Pomodoro. Luoghi, memorie e visioni
Curated by Federico Giani, the exhibition represents the fourth edition of Open Studio, the series hosted in Arnaldo Pomodoro’s Studio, through which the Foundation explores and rediscovers works or moments from the artist’s career. This new chapter offers a journey built around the three themes of place, memory, and vision, key interpretative tools in Pomodoro’s reflection on the nature of sculpture and its relationship with space, developed over five decades of activity, from the 1970s to the 2010s.
In the early 1970s, following a period of critical and inventive assessment of his first fifteen years of work, Pomodoro began to explore a new dimension of his artistic practice. Sculpture was no longer conceived as a mere “object in space”, but rather as a «space defined by a series of sculptures», where memories of the past – both personal and collective – intertwine and give rise to ever-evolving visions. Pomodoro did not define this new approach to the sculptural process once and for all: instead, it unfolded in a discontinuous and at times contradictory way, marked by alternating bursts of momentum and pauses, taking on different forms each time, yet consistently resurfacing over the following four decades.
