Paul Troubetzkoy. Lo Scultore della Belle Époque
The exhibition reconstructs Troubetzkoy’s artistic journey, from his early successes in Milan’s Scapigliatura circles to his international acclaim in Paris and the United States. Renowned for his ability to capture the vitality of his subjects without preparatory drawings, Troubetzkoy was a pre-eminent portraitist of high society, depicting figures such as Lev Tolstoy, Gabriele D’Annunzio, and Giacomo Puccini. His work, often associated with Impressionism, is distinguished by vibrant surfaces sensitive to light.
The selection includes celebrated portraits alongside lesser-known animal sculptures, reflecting his early commitment to animal welfare and vegetarianism. The exhibition also features a dialogue between Troubetzkoy’s bronzes and paintings by contemporaries such as Giovanni Boldini, Ilya Repin, and Joaquín Sorolla. Additionally, the display presents a series of statuettes of Native Americans and cowboys, as well as portraits of Hollywood stars and dancers.
