On the occasion of miart 2016, Kaufmann Repetto presents a solo show by Pierpaolo Campanini.
The work of Pierpaolo Campanini is at the same time intimate and monumental, his paintings are situated between memory and desire, where vernacular monuments are ambiguous subjects that escape an unequivocal definition.
The subjects of the latest series of oil paintings are mostly plants, bushes and shrubs which inhabit the garden of the artist home and studio. Campanini’s deep and stratified painting often fades creating areas of incompleteness marked by uncertainty, thus leaving the canvases hanging between representation and transfiguration.
An improbable light invades the subjects and hardens every fold, blending light and shadow. This semidarkness generate a multitude of colors which sometimes becomes unrealistic and deranged, as if invented by a human eye unsuited for extremes.
