Poor But Sexy
The exhibition takes its title from the iconic phrase by former Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit, symbolizing the post-Wall city as a raw, seductive destination. The exhibition reflects the ongoing divide between East and West, as explored in Agata Pyzik’s book Poor But Sexy: Culture Clashes in Europe East and West. Featuring works by Ala Savashevich, Anastasia Sosunova, Dominika Olszowy, Mila Panić, Miroslav Tichý, and Nikita Kadan, the exhibition presents a conversation between generations and geographies. It questions belonging and identity in a fractured present, blending artistic practices, subcultures, and cultural histories to spark dialogue about memory, fantasy, and the complexity of East-West relations.
