Rä di Martino: Allunati
An artistic exploration of the moon landing
Galleria Monica de Cardenas, Milan presents Rä di Martino‘s solo show “Allunati”, running March 25 – May 9, 2020. The project aims at fostering our sense of myth with ancestral events or those belonging to a recent past, capable of resurfacing in a more or less conscious way, of establishing a common, universal perception. One of them is undoubtedly the landing on the moon in July 1969. That experience has represented and still represents the dominion of the unknown and the supremacy of human reason over chaos. The artist investigates and reworks precisely this scenario, that of the moon, returning it to us in an unprecedented and unexpected light.
The landscapes represented in the works describe a domestic, easy-going reality, where the simplicity and immediacy of the myth convey calm and aspirations of normality. The “Allunati” (Moon-Landed) are instead emptied of their epic otherness. They are mere figures in the enactment of simple attitudes in which anyone can picture themselves. To enhance and empower them, the artist enriches them with golden leaf, filling the anonymous silhouettes. The normality of the subjects represented and the calm of the lunar landscape correspond to our present needs, describe the necessity and hope of a more peaceful and approachable future, in antithesis to the complexity and intelligibility of our present.
