Raúl Cordero: Words are wind

FL GALLERY presents the Cuban artist’s first solo show in Italy.

The artist’s oil paintings originally derive from his processing and constructing images by using computers and printing media, whereby he creates his own universe, which is visible throughout his works and display recurring motives that he transforms and revisits.

Based on a great understanding of Western tradition of painting, he breaks out of this frame by constantly revolutionizing the pictorial process, relying on contemporary technological breakthroughs. He uses technology to worship the grandiloquence of one the most important and historically innovative medium in art history: Painting.

The show features eight new paintings which display deconstructed figuration (soft-edge) as well as abstract forms (hard-edge), including overlapping texts which refer to daily life circumstances. They depict different open air situations, including Landscapes, Architecture, Sailboats, etc. Asking how visual language has given a way to the textual information in contemporary art, Cordero is combining figurative pictorial language with its subsequent metamorphosis into abstraction and a certain spirit of modernism.

The exhibition is realized in collaboration with Mai 36 Galerie, in Zurich, Switzerland.
