Roberto Cotroneo: Genius Loci
A unique introspection on the relationship between art and public
Italian artist and photographer Roberto Cotroneo presents his solo show “Genius Loci”, running at Palazzo Reale, Milan from March 6 to 29, 2020. This project overturns the canonical concept of the museum, where viewers visit a room and observe a number of artworks. Here, the exhibition acquires a theatrical trait, where the actual protagonists of the artistic project are no longer the pieces of art, but the viewers.
The works interact with each other, and visitors take part in the artistic play with their own movements, creating an innovative subject for the photographer. This project entails a deep reflection on the relationship between art and public. The exposed photographs lead the visitor to a sort of theatre, in a scene where the actors play on the stage of art.
