Teresa Giannico: Archives of Empathy
Viasaterna presents Archives of Empathy, the second solo exhibition by Teresa Giannico (Bari, 1985) curated by Giangavino Pazzola. The exhibition project consists of 21 works that celebrate the theme of the renewal of emotions and states of mind in aesthetic experience, through the perceptive exploration of new imagery.
The renewal in Archives of Empathy manifests itself first of all from a narrative point of view. The gazes of the young women and men who inhabit the new images seem, in fact, to go beyond the condition of isolation in which those depicted on the intense monochrome backdrops of the first production found themselves. These aseptic environments disappear in favour of more described settings enriched by a palette of brighter tones, where the subjects engage in a new relationship with space and time.
In these works, the protagonists rediscover a more empathetic attention to community through caring gestures, embraces, references to motherhood and softer poses. Other landscapes and still-lives with floral and domestic themes are added, which not only lend a sense of chromatic and rhythmic balance to the entire exhibition, but also continue to suggest a generative sensory dimension.
