THE HAPPINESS PROJECT, EPISODE 3: HEARTH & HOME

The exhibition, curated by José Freire, features works by ten artists: Lizzi Bougatsos, Sylvie Fleury, Richard Hoeck & John Miller, Christian Holstad, Elisabeth Kley, Liam Neff, Kayode Ojo, Patrick Sarmiento, Dash Snow, and Nicole Wermers.

The installation explores the dichotomy of the home. While viewed from the outside as a fortress of stability where values are transmitted across generations, the interior often serves as a site of nascent resistance and a breeding ground for opposition. This utility remains hidden from the hegemonic forces of the outside world. The physical structure of the house serves as the locus for the family, which is treated not only as a social construct but as a psychical institution. The works examine the powerful and destabilising forces associated with this environment, including emotions, aspirations, the erotic, the private, and the individual.
