Theresa Büchner: Faustrecht
MATTA presents a solo show dedicated to the works of German artist Theresa Büchner in Milan.
Theresa Büchner develops works with a focus on film, photography and text. Making use of visual and verbal narrative tools she selects motifs from her surroundings to form narratives that evoke the poetic attraction of the everyday – not as an end in itself, but to point towards underlying patterns of thought and behaviour as well as challenge their acceptance. The refusal of one’s ascribed role and the construction of one’s own reality and identity are recurring themes in her practice.
Theresa Büchner (1993, Aachen, Germany) studied at the University of Art and Design in Offenbach and graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 2018. She currently studies at Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. Her short film Demolding a Daughter premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival and was nominated for the Steenbergen Photography Prize in 2018
“I didn’t like my first uniform.
It was too gray for my complexion.
But the uniforms that came after were great.
The color combination of blue and white
makes you look fresh in the neon light on board.
To the same effect we use makeup.
It’s less about beauty and more about looking awake and sane after a twelve-hour day, to make our guests feel safe.
Passengers give up control.
Everybody likes to do that.”
