Elizabeth Price

Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Avenue

The exhibition dedicated to London-based Elizabeth Price at Walker Art Center departs from the artist’s specific response to the Walker’s Perlman Gallery’s architecture and history. It features two new moving image works, which mark the artist’s first commission for a US museum. “FELT TIP” explores design patterns from vintage men’s neckties, reflecting on the symbolic charge of this item. “KOHL”, on the other hand, describes an underground environment populated by the so-called “visitants”, who underline how coal extraction has shaped much of contemporary society. Both the videos convey the artist’s investigation into topics such as the relation between material and digital and the markers of gender and class.

Price’s practice is always centred on the creation of immersive moving image works which combine both digital and analogue processes, assuming as starting point the artist’s research into collections, archives, or architectural sites, drawing inspiration from materials and photographs that the artist refers to as “culturally buried”, namely usually overlooked.
