Laure Prouvost: Oma-je

PHI Foundation, 451 & 465 Saint-Jean Street Montréal, Québec H2Y 2R5

The exhibition showcases iconic works by Prouvost, celebrating her playful approach to language, translation, and transliteration, as well as her experimental narrated video and immersive installations that transform everyday objects into surreal, unexpected worlds.

“Oma-je” also features an all-encompassing new work, “Here Her Heart Hovers” (2023), co-commissioned by Remai Modern, Kunsthalle Wien, and Wiener Festwochen. This installation centres on the grandmother as both ancestor and pioneer, transforming the gallery into a theatre of memory, imagination, and legacy through an assemblage of objects. Visitors are invited to journey through time, immersing themselves in the shadowy, intricate interplay between past and present, the individual and society, and modern versus ancient concepts, relationships, materials, and techniques.
