Philippe Parreno: Voices
Philippe Parreno redefines exhibition experiences by transforming galleries into interconnected, choreographed spaces where artworks interact dynamically with unfolding events.
In “Voices”, dancers guide visitors, moving walls shift rhythmically, and a tower antenna transmits soundscapes and stories. Environmental data drives mechanical elements, while a custom supercomputer—the “Brain”—orchestrates sounds and lights. The building’s structure dissolves into a choreography of data, breaths, and voices.
Collaborator Tino Sehgal introduces dancers speaking an evolving language, ∂A, developed by Parreno. This language triggers responses throughout the exhibition, with dancers acting as oracles. “Voices”, including that of ARD anchor Susanne Daubner, interact with the environment, blending human and cybernetic elements.
“Voices” is co-programmed with Seoul’s Leeum Museum of Art, featuring shared works, publications, and concepts of cross-cultural collaboration.
