Mimmo Jodice: Attesa 1960-2016
Museo Madre announces “Attesa. 1960-2016” , the largest retrospective exhibition ever dedicated to artistic research by Mimmo Jodice (Naples , 1934) , one of the undisputed masters of contemporary photography.
The exhibition will present, in a way designed specifically for the museum spaces, more than a hundred works from seminal experiments on the photographic language of the sixties and seventies up to a new series (Waiting , 2015) realized on the occasion of this retrospective project.
On view there will be the most important photographic cycles that Jodice dedicated to the ancient world, to still life, the urban dimension, the relationship with art history – which make up the main aspects and themes of his research: the cultural roots of the Mediterranean, the epiphanies of everyday life, that decline un’archetipica anthropology of everyday objects the abstraction of the contemporary metropolis, weighed against the charm of the natural landscape, the relationship between voltage and metaphysical dimension of the news, as well as between the persistence of the past in the identity of this.
A section of the exhibition will be devoted to the social matrix and civil commitment of the sixties and seventies, while other sections will also present works by some artists, selected to outline the primary sources of inspiration of this masterful search.
In his works, which have helped to define the developments of international contemporary photographic research, Jodice outlines a space – time dimension placed beyond the spatial coordinates or the passage of time , suspended in both physical and metaphysical dimension , empirical and contemplative expectation.
