A.K. Burns: Shabby but Thriving

New Museum, 235 Bowery

Power (the sun), water, land, void, and body are the key elements that constitute the exhibition by A.K. Burns at the New Museum in New York.

Commissioned by the New Museum as part of the artist’s residency program, the New York based artist presents a two-channel video titled “Living Room” (2017–ongoing), filmed in the New Museum’s 231 Bowery space that houses the artist-in-residence studio. The installation includes sculptural objects that implement the video’s narrative aspect and a unique soundtrack by Geo Wyeth and a choreographed number by NIC Kay.

Curated by Johanna Burton and Sara O’Keeffe, the exhibition in enriched by a series of public programs, focusing on bodies under violence and rights under the new political administration
