Emma Kathleen Hepburn Ferrer: The Scapegoat
Emma Kathleen Hepburn Ferrer presents her first solo exhibition in New York in 2025, showcasing a poignant body of work exploring the complex relationships between humans, animals, and nature. At its centre is the myth of The Scapegoat, which Ferrer interprets as a timeless tale of animal sacrifice evoking universal emotions such as guilt, grief, and redemption.
Inspired by pre-biblical and Paleo-Christian myths as well as modern narratives like bullfighting and hunting, the works draw on Ferrer’s extensive studies in Greek mythology, theology, and philosophy. Her process incorporates classical techniques alongside an intuitive, emotive approach shaped by her rural life in Tuscany.
This exhibition offers a powerful reflection on humanity’s enduring connection with animals and the natural world, presenting themes of sacrifice and interdependence through a deeply personal lens.
