Fierce Pussy: And So Are You, 1991-2018
The installation “AND SO ARE YOU” is a site-specific project installed on the windows of the Leslie – Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art. The project is conceived by fierce pussy, a New York City-based queer art collective. It combines old and newer works with the aim to challenge assumptions about identity, family, gender and appearance and to claim back public space for the LGBTQ community.
Since its foundation back in 1991, the collective has used public spaces to conquer lesbian visibility through actions such as wheat-pasting posters, distributing t- shirts and renaming streets throughout the city. Their works always involve objects accessible in everyday job contexts, like old typewriters, personal baby pictures, found photographs as well as photocopying equipment.
