Gerhard Richter: Painting After All
An exhibition spanning the entirety of Richter's prolific and innovative career.
The Met Breuer hosts an exhibition dedicated to one of today’s greatest artists, Gerhard Richter: Painting After All, covering Richter’s six-decade-long concern with the twofold nature of representation and abstraction to explore the material, conceptual and historical implications of painting. Spanning the Richter’s enitre career, the exhibition presents over one hundred works that hone in on his commitment to the art of painting, as well as his interests in photography, digital reproduction, and sculpture.
The exhibition has been loaned the series Cage (2006) and Birkenau (2014), as well as the recent House of Cards (2020), all exhibited in the United States for the first time.
Gerhard Richter: Painting After All, is curated by Sheena Wagstaff and Benjamin H. D. Buchloh with Brinda Kumar
