Joan Miró: Birth of the World
Museum of Modern Art – MoMA, 11 West 53 Street, Manhattan, New York, USA
The exhibition is centred around the signature work by Joan Miró, “Birth of the World”, painted in 1925 during his period of intense engagement with poetry; as a matter of fact, the painting composition of the work recalls the creative process of poetry. The exhibition places the painting in dialogue with around 60 pieces, selected from the museum’s permanent collection of Miró’s paintings, augmented by several key loans. Paintings, works on paper, prints, illustrated books and objects all date back to the years between 1920, the year of Miró’s first trip to Paris, and the early 1950s, gathered together to illustrate the overlap between the artist’s poetic process and pictorial research.
