The solo exhibition at gallery Bortolami is dedicated to artist Lesley Vance, featuring a series of nine new paintings. These ultimate works reference the recurring graphic motifs for which the artist is known, but with a slight increase in sizes and in the palette of colours. Her canvases usually present bands of monochrome paint overlapping with long, calligraphic streaks of colour, distinguished by trompe l’oeil bends and folds.
Born in Milwaukee in 1977, Lesley Vance currently lives and works in Los Angeles. Her paintings are featured in the public collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, among many others.
