Nari Ward: We The People
The New Museum presents the first museum survey in New York dedicated to the work of Nari Ward. Featuring over thirty sculptures, paintings, videos, and large-scale installations which span the artists twenty-five-year career.
This exhibition highlights the continued importance of New York, and Harlem in particular, to the material and thematic content of Ward’s art. The exhibition includes several early works alongside more recent work, in which Ward focuses on complex political and social realities on both a local and a national level, the gentrification of Harlem and the state of democracy in the United States.
The exhibition exposes Ward’s status as a key American artist and advocate for art’s capacity to address today’s most urgent issues.
“Nari Ward: We the People” is curated by Gary Carrion-Murayari, Kraus Family Curator; Massimiliano Gioni, Edlis Neeson Artistic Director; and Helga Christoffersen, Associate Curator.
