Rashid Johnson: The Hikers

Hauser & Wirth gathers Rashid Johnson‘s recent work in a comprehensive solo show unfolded through the rooms on the gallery’s second floor. Micro-themes defining the political and social disorder around the world – anxiety, escapism, collective and individual identity – are explored both metaphorically and literally in a suite of poignant artworks: installations, large-scale bronze sculptures, collages, and video art. Taking its cue from Harold Cruse’s well-known treatise ‘The Crisis of the Negro Intellectual, the film in the last room”, the films bring choreography on a cinematic scale. In conjunction with the exhibition, Hauser & Wirth hosts a series of performances as well during the whole duration of the show.
