Screens Series: Patricia Domínguez
Patricia Domínguez presents her video works at the New Museum.
The New Museum presents the artworks by the artist, educator, and experimental ethnobotanist Patricia Domínguez . The exhibition is part of the New Museum’s “Screens Series“, a stage for showcasing new video works by emerging contemporary artists.
Domínguez reflects on the effects and the evidence of colonisation in Chile as experienced through her own family history. Her artworks – which are rooted in ecological, spiritual, and therapeutic realms – narrates stories from a hyper-commercialised, over-extracted world, yet propose a poetic vision of contemporary life as deeply connected to the earth. Domínguez‘s author signature is the usage of a fluorescent glow of LED lights although her works are staged in natural and shrine-like settings, creating a suggestive contrast.
