The Value of Good Design

The exhibition explores the concept of “good design”, drawing inspiration from MoMA’s former Good Design initiatives from the late 1930s through the 1950s, which displayed contemporary affordable and well-designed products to investigate their impact on everyday life. “The Value of Good Design” features a wide array of objects, such as domestic furnishings and appliances, ceramics, glass, electronics, transport design, sporting goods, toys and graphics, from different countries and decades, which reflect everyday lifestyles but also the exploitation of these products by the political governments during the Cold War years as tools of socio-economical reconstruction and technological advancement after the World War II. The exhibition also includes contemporary items to reflect on the value of Good Design and its democratising potential nowadays.
