Constance Tenvik: Tio-tio-tinx
The “Solo Oslo” series is part of Munch’s dedication to contemporary art and nurturing the next generation of artists and mediators. For this edition, artist Constance Tenvik takes over the gallery space on level 10 with a new installation, while Ifrah Osman develops a mediation project tailored for a specific audience she has selected.
Constance Tenvik is an artist who tackles big themes, often drawing from existing stories. For her solo exhibition at MUNCH, “Tio-tio-tinx”, Tenvik reimagines Aristophanes’ 414 BC comedy “The Birds” in a contemporary setting. She uses the ancient play to subtly critique humanity’s colonialist tendencies, from ancient Athens to modern commercial space travel.
In “The Birds”, the world is split into three realms, and two humans enlist the help of birds to challenge the gods and claim dominion over the skies. “This feels like the perfect time to mock imperialist thinking, while embracing escapism and acknowledging human desires,” Tenvik wrote in her application for the fourth edition of “Solo Oslo”.
