Vincenzo Castella: Il libro di Padova

In the spaces of the Botanical Garden of Padua the exhibition "The Book of Padua" opens with photographs by Vincenzo Castella and texts by Salvatore Lacagnina.

Padua, like many Italian cities, is a treasure trove of history and beauty. It is home to one of the oldest universities in the world, is the cradle of the arts, and has a botanical garden dating back to the 16th century that has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A place of wonder, which has inspired artists and writers over the centuries.
The artist Vincenzo Castella presents in the exhibition a selection of forty images of the city of Padua, experimenting with a possible aesthetic translation from the format of the book published by Silvana Editoriale – which collects a hundred photographs taken between 2020 and 2021 – to that of the exhibition.

The city is shown through four themes: the “Botanical Garden“, or more generally the plant world; “painting“, mainly frescoes, preserved in churches, chapels, oratories, baptisteries, and palaces; “architecture“, which the artist allows to emerge as an almost always internal space; and the “University“, with its history as a crucial node of European culture.
