Maïa Régis: Mosche e Cristi
The Francesco Pantaleone Arte Contemporanea gallery hosts “Mosche e Cristi” by Maïa Régis, described by curator Agata Polizzi as “a fresh, intense wind filtering images, scents, sounds, and sensations that blur the line between inside and outside, body and space, past and present”. Through visual art, Régis captures her view of the world with a boundaryless, universal language, blending personal experiences, emotions, and the complexity of unfolding events.
The exhibition presents an inner journey, a diary of encounters and places like Palermo, Paris, and Pantelleria, where memories rooted in the artist’s heart and mind anchor her to a sense of belonging. Régis’s works, described as visual archipelagos, use painting as narrative, referencing pop culture’s playful lightness while revealing ironic, sometimes bittersweet undertones.
The dynamic display includes works from different periods, shifting between delicate small pieces and large formats, alongside furniture by Jules Régis, the artist’s brother, offering “islands” to inhabit. Polizzi highlights Régis’s attention to fleeting moments, valuing imperfection as part of a creative flow where anything remains possible.
