Ritratto di ignoto. L’artista chiamato Banksy
The works by the famous and mysterious artist Banksy are exhibited for the first time in Palermo
The mysterious contemporary artists Banksy is the protagonist of a new exhibition in two different locations in Palermo, the Loggiato San Bartolomeo and Palazzo Trinacria. “Ritratto di ignoto. L’artista chiamato Banksy” (Portrait of unknown. The artist called Banksy) gathers more than 100 original pieces by the street artist, from his early free-hand paintings to his serigraphs, installations and objects from Dismaland, and several numbered pieces.
The exhibition draws inspiration from the iconic oil painting by the artist Antonello da Messina “Ritratto di ignoto”, and from the Sicilian artistic production in general, assumed as the starting point for a reflection on Banksy, whose identity remains unknown.
Curated by Gianluca Marziani, Stefano Antonelli and Acoris Andipa, and strongly wanted by Fondazione Sant’Elia and Fondazione Pietro Barbaro, the exhibition is part of a bigger project of creation of a cultural hub in the Palermitan neighbourhood of Kalsa, characterised by a mix of different cultures.
