Stefania Galegati: She Is-land
Stefania Galegati's fifth exhibition at FPAC
Stefania Galegati’s fifth personal show “She Is-land” is presented at FPAC – Francesco Panteleone Arte Contemporanea, Palermo, running from February 29 to May 2, 2020. The project was born from Valentina Greco’s idea and in collaboration with Claudia Gangemi and Marcela Caldas, and consists of bringing together 350,000 women to buy the €3,500,000 island. Each woman’s quota is €10.
The purchasing project will take place through the associations Femminote, and can be considered an artwork, a symbolic gesture of resistance and a heterotopia. It allows the public to dream and reflect on themes such as common goods and private property, the care of the land, feminism and its derivatives, the acceptance of failure and weakness.
To spread word of the project every member of the association is contributing in their own way and language.Stefania Galegati creates a series of works. Whilst they maintain a focus on the island, they also become a way of developing relationships and research, and practices (readings, writings and painting). The exhibition is accompanied by a conversation between the artist and Giulia Monroy.
