Alberto Giacometti and Yves Tanguy
This exhibition brings together the works of Yves Tanguy and Alberto Giacometti for the first time, establishing a dialogue between two distinct yet interconnected artistic visions. Born a year apart at the beginning of the 20th century, the two artists share a history shaped by the Surrealist movement in 1930s Paris, where they explore new forms of expression beyond the representation of reality. Their practices, however, develop in different directions. Tanguy looks towards a world emptied of human presence, transforming the landscape into a space of survival and renewal. Giacometti instead places the human figure at the centre of his exploration, considering it the ultimate measure of the world and a territory through which reality and hope can be examined. By bringing these two bodies of work into close proximity, the exhibition highlights the contrast between their approaches while revealing unexpected connections. Their works offer complementary perspectives on the relationship between humanity and its surroundings, and on questions of reality, survival and existence.
