Carolrama Coralarma Claromara Arolcarma Coralroma Ormalacra Carmarola
Paris-LGDR Paris hosts "Carolrama Coralarma Claromara Arolcarma Coralroma Ormalacra Carmarola", the first exhibition dedicated to Carol Rama's research in the 1960s and 1970s
The exhibition is divided into four sections: it opens with a nucleus of bricolages created in the 1960s. In these works, Rama painted canvases, boards and sheets of paper and then framed various objects including syringes, cables, metal shavings and even doll’s eyes and animal claws.
The second section reveals the spray painting with which the artist created various works in which abstract, ghostly, skeletal-looking bodies stand out.
During the 1970s, once again making use of materials readily available in the industrial factories of northern Italy, Rama uses rubber and inner tubes in several series of important works. At first, she does this by flattening flat rubber surfaces, creating compositions that further develop her investigation of the human body initiated in the bricolages. The surface area of these works increases in size, hand in hand with the rubber used by the artist, stretched into enormous curves against black or white backgrounds. The exhibition ends in a space dedicated to the artist’s studio. New photographs show the environment in which the works were created, also illustrating much of the artist’s extraordinary collection of personal effects.
