Chen Ke: Bauhaus Gal – Theatre

For several years now, Chen Ke has been producing, among other types of work, series of paintings based on photographic portraits. These can be of celebrities such as Marylin Monroe or Frida Kahlo, or of anonymous people.

In this new exhibition, the artist continues in the vein of this practice, which could be described as appropriationist, with a series of portraits of young female Bauhaus students (as well as architectural photographs) taken from a source book entitled Bauhaus Mädels (Patrick Rössler ed., Taschen, 2019).
