David Hockney 25
The Fondation Louis Vuitton presents David Hockney 25, the most extensive exhibition of the British artist’s career to date. Spanning seven decades, the retrospective features over 400 works from 1955 to 2025, including paintings, drawings, digital creations, and immersive video installations. The exhibition occupies Galleries 5 to 7 of the 1st Floor of the Frank Gehry-designed building, offering a comprehensive overview of Hockney’s artistic evolution.
Highlights include iconic pieces such as “A Bigger Splash” (1967), “Portrait of an Artist” (“Pool with Two Figures”) (1972), and “Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy” (1971). The exhibition places particular emphasis on the past 25 years, showcasing Hockney’s exploration of landscapes in Yorkshire and Normandy, as well as his innovative use of digital technology, exemplified by the 220 for 2020 iPad series.
Curated by Suzanne Pagé, with Sir Norman Rosenthal as guest curator, and in close collaboration with Hockney and his studio team, the exhibition also features recent works inspired by artists such as William Blake and Edvard Munch. These pieces delve into themes of memory, spirituality, and the passage of time.
The exhibition offers visitors an unprecedented insight into the artist’s creative universe, celebrating his enduring impact on contemporary art.
