Éric Baudart: Les Circonstances sont Neutres / Circumstances are Neutral
“Circumstances Are Neutral” presents recent works by Éric Baudart, exploring the transformation of industrial materials into objects of form, time, and spatial reflection. Central to the exhibition, an engine is displayed as a silent sculpture, removed from function and reinterpreted as a volumetric, surface-oriented, and dense object. Surrounding it, works including cut graph papers, object-paintings constructed from utility knife blades, and honeycomb-like structures extend this exploration of the passage from surface to relief. Using steel, paper, and mesh, Baudart examines the neutrality of materials, allowing their arrangements to create visual fields where accumulation, incision, and gesture function sculpturally. The exhibition avoids manifesto or allegory, inviting a direct reading of the objects as they stand. Through displacement and transformation, industrial materials are presented anew, emphasising their inherent visual and tactile qualities. The presentation highlights how everyday objects, when reconsidered, can reveal unexpected relationships between form, space, and perception.
