Fiona Rae: Ensemble

Nathalie Obadia presents “Ensemble”, Fiona Rae’s ninth solo exhibition at the gallery since 1994. Bringing together thirteen works created between 1997 and today, the exhibition retraces key stages in the evolution of Rae’s practice.

Internationally recognised as a pioneer of contemporary abstract painting, Rae first came to prominence as part of the Young British Artists, participating in the landmark exhibition Freeze in 1988. While sharing the iconoclastic spirit of her peers, she has forged a singular path by reimagining abstraction, drawing on influences ranging from art history to graphic design, animation, music and literature.

The works on view span from early canvases such as “Tomb Raider” (1997) to recent paintings from the “Word and Abstracts” series, reflecting Rae’s continuing exploration of language, imagery and form. Ensemble invites visitors to engage with her work as a constellation of propositions, where each painting opens onto new beginnings while revisiting past trajectories.
